Water Service Line Verification Project

ECUA -- Committed to Providing Clean and Reliable Drinking Water to Our Community

As your community-based utility, ECUA has been responsible for providing a reliable and clean drinking water supply to our customers since 1981. Our dedicated staff works around the clock to ensure our customers receive the best possible product when they turn on their tap. We understand our role as the steward of the community’s water supply and strive to meet and exceed all regulatory requirements of the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

In 2023, ECUA delivered an average of 35.6 million gallons of water daily to our customers. We are committed to investing in our water system to ensure the reliability and safety of our water through the installation of new water mains to replace aging infrastructure and to support the expansion of our distribution system with the ongoing inspection, maintenance, and upgrade of our existing infrastructure in order to meet the ever-increasing needs of our growing community.

To ensure that ECUA water meets or exceeds federal and state drinking water standards, we collect and analyze water samples more frequently than federal regulations require through the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA). Our State-certified laboratory performs many of these tests, although some samples are sent to external labs for processing. To learn more about our sampling and testing activities, click here.

Each year, the ECUA publishes a Water Quality Report that provides a detailed synopsis of our water quality over the preceding reporting year. See the most recent Water Quality Report here.

New Requirements to the EPA's Safe Drinking Water Act

Recently, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) added an addendum to the Lead and Copper Rule (LCR) that was established in 1991. This Rule is a section of the 1974 Safe Drinking Water Act. This new guidance, known as the Lead and Lead and Copper Rule Revisions (LCRR), is designed to keep people in the United States safe from the dangers of drinking water contaminated by lead and copper. Because lead and copper found in drinking water rarely come from the water source but rather from household plumbing, The LCRR now requires all public water service providers in the U.S., like ECUA, to take inventory of all water service lines.

The EPA’s overall goals for the LCRR are to:

  • Identify the material of water service lines across the U.S.
  • Strengthen requirements and safety of drinking water throughout the U.S.
  • Initiate the replacement of lead service lines.

ECUA’s Asset Management Water Service Line Verification Project

Our Asset Management Program helps us maintain our system and serve you better. To this end, and to meet the recent changes in the Lead & Copper Rule section of the Safe Drinking Water Act, we are working to verify pipe material types on both sides of our customers’ water meters. Beginning in September, we will be doing some shallow hand digging around randomly selected water meters. If your meter is selected, we’ll provide notice with a door hanger a few days before we start work, and rest assured that we will be sure to keep things tidy all around our work area. Please call our Customer Service at 850-476-0480 if you have any questions.
