A Sanitary Sewer Overflow -SSO- occurred on November 11, 2023, in the area of 8210 Pittman Avenue after a six-inch sewer force main was damaged by a private contractor performing roadway work within the right-of-way. The overflow was estimated at 16,000 gallons, of which 4,000 gallons were recovered and transported to an ECUA water reclamation facility for proper treatment and disposal. The overflow was contained within a gated and locked retention pond and bacteriological sampling was not required.

ECUA crews repaired the main and cleaned the overflow area with a biocide agent that abated any contamination concerns, per State protocol. In accordance with standard operating procedure, the ECUA notified the State Warning Point, the Escambia County Health Department, and the FDEP.
