A Sanitary Sewer Overflow -SSO- occurred on September 19, 2023, at the southeast corner of Mobile Highway and Klondike Road after a three-inch sewer force main was damaged by a private contractor performing roadway work for FDOT. The overflow was estimated at 600 gallons, of which 500 gallons were recovered and transported to an ECUA water reclamation facility for proper treatment and disposal. The overflow was contained onsite and bacteriological sampling was not required.

ECUA crews removed the blockage and cleaned the overflow area with a biocide agent that abated any contamination concerns, per State protocol. In accordance with standard operating procedure, the ECUA notified the Escambia County Health Department, and the FDEP.
