Sanitary Sewer Overflows

Sanitary Sewer Overflows -SSOs- occurred on September 15, 2021, at the following locations due to an excess of stormwater entering the ECUA sanitary sewer collection system.

  • 322 E. Sunset Avenue (manhole #19006612): This overflow was estimated at 2,700 gallons of which 2,020 gallons were recovered and transported to an ECUA water reclamation facility for proper treatment and disposal. ECUA crews prevented an additional 16,640 gallons from overflowing by diverting flows to tanker trucks. This volume was also transported for proper treatment and disposal. The overflow was contained on site and bacteriological sampling was not required.
  • 8420 Doris Avenue (manhole #19008752): This overflow was estimated at 7,500 gallons of which 6,260 gallons were recovered and transported to an ECUA water reclamation facility for proper treatment and disposal. At all sites, ECUA crews cleaned the overflow areas with a biocide agent that abated any contamination concerns, per State protocol. In accordance with standard operating procedures, the ECUA notified the State Warning Point, the Escambia County Health Department, and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.
