A Sanitary Sewer Overflow -SSO- occurred on August 1, 2023, near 8689 Scenic Hwy. due to a failed seal in a by-pass line being used in the course of a new sewer main installation. The overflow was estimated at 1,950 gallons and ECUA crews diverted an additional estimated 5,430 gallons via tanker and vacuum trucks from the overflow area to prevent further spillage. Bacteriological sampling has been initiated.

ECUA crews cleaned the overflow area with a biocide agent that abated any contamination concerns, per State protocol. In accordance with standard operating procedure, the ECUA notified the State Warning Point, the Escambia County Health Department, and the FDEP.
