Sanitary Sewer Overflow

A Sanitary Sewer Overflow -SSO- occurred on Sept. 22, 2022, in the vicinity of 2001 West Detroit Boulevard after a contractor working in the area damaged a six-inch sewer force main. The overflow was estimated at 7,500 gallons, of which 7,070 gallons were recovered and transported to an ECUA water reclamation facility for proper treatment and disposal. Crews also diverted 15,900 gallons into a vacuum truck, preventing additional overflow. Bacteriological sampling has been initiated.

ECUA crews repaired the main and cleaned the overflow area with a biocide agent that abated any contamination concerns, per State protocol. In accordance with standard operating procedure, the ECUA notified the State warning Point, the Escambia County Health Department, and the FDEP.
