Sanitary Sewer Overflow

A Sanitary Sewer Overflow -SSO- occurred on October 5, at 322 E. Sunset Avenue (manhole # 19006612) due to an excess of stormwater entering the ECUA sanitary sewer collection system. The overflow was estimated at 29,025 gallons, of which 27,220 gallons were recovered and transported to an ECUA water reclamation facility for proper treatment and disposal. ECUA crews diverted an additional 65,500 gallons, preventing a larger overflow. This volume was also transported for proper treatment and disposal. The overflow was contained on site and bacteriological sampling was not required.

ECUA crews cleaned the overflow area with a biocide agent that abated any contamination concerns, per State protocol. In accordance with standard operating procedures, the ECUA notified the State Warning Point, the Escambia County Health Department, and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.
