Effective immediately, a precautionary boil water notice has been issued by the Emerald Coast Utilities Authority for customers located in the impacted area.
Precautionary boil water notices are issued as part of standard protocol following any loss of water pressure, whether resulting from planned maintenance activities or unscheduled repairs.
Residents within the affected area are advised to boil water for 1 minute at a rolling boil before using it for drinking or cooking. Alternatively, residents may disinfect water by adding eight drops of regular, unscented household bleach per gallon of water and allowing it to stand for 30 minutes before use. Bacteriological sampling has been initiated, and the advisory will be lifted as soon as possible. This process typically takes 48 hours.
ECUA crews have completed the repair work and flushed the water lines. Residents within and near the precautionary boil water notice area may experience discolored water as a result of the utility work and are advised to flush household plumbing by running taps for several minutes. If problems persist, customers are asked to contact ECUA Customer Service at 850-476-0480 for assistance.
