The Emerald Coast Utilities Authority is providing an update on emergency sewer repair work underway at the intersection of North 9th Avenue and East Salamanca Street.
While significant progress has been made, additional repairs identified during construction will extend the project timeline. ECUA now anticipates reopening the roadway following asphalt restoration on Monday, June 8, weather permitting.
As part of the repair effort, crews completed repairs to a sewer manhole Friday morning after identifying cracks and infiltration issues within the structure. The temporary sewer bypass system currently in place will remain active until the sewer line is returned to service Saturday, June 6.
Additionally, crews were required to remove and replace a drainage inlet at the northeast corner of the intersection because of the size of the excavation needed to complete the emergency sewer repair. Construction of the new drainage structure is underway, and the concrete must cure before final roadway restoration can begin.
The excavation area has been backfilled and compacted to match the existing roadway elevation, and asphalt paving is scheduled for Monday.
Traffic control measures will remain in place through the weekend, although the construction area will be reduced after the sewer bypass system is removed Saturday.
ECUA appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation as crews complete these necessary repairs and improvements.
