Sanitary Sewer Overflow

A Sanitary Sewer Overflow -SSO- occurred on Aug. 8 at 2175 W. Detroit Blvd. due to damage to a 6-inch sewer force main by a contractor working in the area. The overflow was estimated at 5,280 gallons, of which 2,700 gallons were recovered by vacuum truck and transported to an ECUA water reclamation facility for proper disposal and treatment. An additional 6,000 gallons were diverted and captured for treatment. Bacteriological sampling has been initiated.

ECUA crews repaired the main and cleaned the overflow area with a biocide agent that abated any contamination concerns, per State protocol. In accordance with standard operating procedure, the ECUA notified the State Warning Point, the Escambia County Health Department and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.
